Student Welfare Services

Student Welfare is a component of the Student Affairs responsible for Residence, Student Governance, Health Services & Student Counselling and Sports and Recreation.

This is to ensure students are taken care of outside of their academic life, to develop social skills to have a holistic student life experience.

Sports & Recreation

The institute offers sports and recreation as means to allow them to rest and reset out of their academic activities. There are 4 active sporting codes and a choir.

Tournaments

The institute participates in the annual Agricultural College Sports tournaments that are hosted by the different colleges.

The tournaments are as follows:

  • Rugby Week Tournament – held during winter
  • Soccer and Netball (NACSANO) – this is a National Agricultural College Soccer and Netball Organisation which is held in Spring season.
  • Volleyball (NACVA) – this is a National Agricultural College Volleyball Association that is held during the spring season.
  • Choir (NACCC) – National Agricultural College Choir Competition Sports awards are held at the end of the year to recognize teams that have done well, individuals and coaches who have performed outstandingly.

Health Services & Student Counselling

The institute provides primary health services and student counselling services:

Clinic Services - Professional Nurse

❖  Family Planning
❖  Treatment of minor ailments
❖  HIV counselling and testing
❖  Pregnancy testing
❖  Monitoring of vital signs(blood pressure, weight, blood sugar and High Blood pressure)
❖  Referral to nearby hospital for further treatment and chronic medication.

Student Counselling - Intern Psychologist and Inter Social Worker

Social Work Services

❖  Promote and address social change and Development
❖  Social Cohesion and Social well-being
❖  Empowerment of Students through programmes
❖  Provide support during times of distress such as rape, assault, muggings, domestic abuse and physical abuse.

Psychology Services

❖  Promote and address social ❖  Individual and group counselling (Trauma, Loss and Grief, Family issues, Substance
abuse)
❖  Facilitation of mental and social programmes
❖  Workshop based approaches
❖  Provide psychotherapy to overcome behavioural problems, emotional difficulties and stress related issues

Student Governance

  • There is an 11-member Student Representative Committee that is responsible for advocating for student matters.
  • SRC office term is for 12 months and elections are held annually.
  • SRC have affiliates that consist of the residence committee, political organizations (SASCO AND PASMA) and a Student Christian Accommodation (SCO).
  • Through the SCO, exam prayers are also organized for Students prior to writing.

Leisure & Activities

  • Tuckshop and Farm Stall to cater for daily needs of Students.
  • Entertainment area with Tv, Pool Table, Dart Boards, Chess and Table Tennis.
  • Students at pre-determined intervals, get taken to town for personal groceries on weekends.
