FACILITIES
The workshop houses the office of the:
➢ Assistant Manager: FMID,
➢ Office of the Supervisor: Fleet,
➢ Agricultural Engineering Technician Office
➢ The office and storeroom of the mechanical team
➢ An open plan office of the Supervisors: Electrical, Water and Plumbing, and Building and Carpentry & Grounds Supervisor.
There is a compressor room, and the main section of the workshop has vehicle hoist and machinery.
There are storerooms for the water services and building and carpentry teams as well as garages for vehicles, implements and tractors.
Some of the farm implements are neatly and safely placed around the main workshop building.
The workshop also has an ablutions block and Security Office.
There is a Engineering workshop that is used by academic services for teaching and learning as well practical purposes.
WORKSHOP ACTIVITIES
- Servicing of the Institute Vehicles, Tractors and Machinery.
- Practicals for students especially at the engineering workshop.
The workshop also has a fully functioning fuel station. There are 2 pumps, one for Petrol and one for Diesel.
The fuel station is only reserved for Institute vehicles, tractors and generators, no private vehicles including staff are allowed usage of the fuel station.
A tyre pressure pump is also available.
ENGINEERING WORKSHOP
Within the workshop, also lies the Agricultural Engineering Workshop which has 3 wings:
➢ Automated Machinery Section
➢ Another section that Manual Machinery and
➢ A lecture room that has a Tractor Demo/Simulator.
The Office of the Agricultural Engineering Technician is also housed there.
MOBILE GENERATOR
There is a 80kVA Trailer-mounted diesel generator (standby mobile generator), which was acquired through the Electricity Infrastructure Refurbishment project that was carried out by the Department of Agriculture on behalf of Fort Cox.
The mobile generator is intended to be used as a back-up for electricity at the water treatment plant and river pumps.
It may also be used during events or activities where there is no electricity or where there is limited electricity.
