About
The Laboratory Services at Fort Cox supports teaching, research, and community engagement by providing scientific analysis and practical training in agriculture and related fields.
The Laboratory Complex consists of six specialised laboratories, each designed to support key areas of agricultural science:
First Year Laboratory
Introduces students to foundational scientific principles and basic laboratory techniques.
Biochemistry and Nutrition Laboratory
Focuses on nutrient analysis, animal nutrition studies, and biochemical processes in agriculture.
Agronomy Laboratory
Supports soil science, crop production, and plant growth analysis.
Anatomy Laboratory
Provides practical training in animal structure and biological systems.
Plant Pathology Laboratory
Focuses on plant diseases, diagnosis, and crop protection methods.
Microbiology Laboratory
Deals with microorganisms relevant to agriculture, including soil, plant, and animal health applications.
Through these facilities, students develop essential practical and analytical skills, strengthening their ability to apply scientific knowledge in real agricultural systems.
The laboratories are equipped to conduct analyses on soil, water, plant, and animal-related samples, contributing to improved agricultural productivity, product quality. The laboratories provide reliable results using approved scientific methods.
Core services include some of the soil, water, and plant analysis, and nutrient testing such as pH, electrical conductivity, and mineral content. In addition, the laboratories support advanced diploma research and specialized testing, including fruit quality analysis (e.g., sucrose levels), microbial analysis of milk, meat quality assessment (pH and colour), and egg quality evaluation.
The facilities are also extensively used for student practicals in subjects such as Chemistry, Biology, Botany, and Soil Science, providing hands-on learning experiences that strengthen theoretical knowledge and develop technical skills.
