Welcoming First Year Students 2026

The 2026 Academic Year officially kicked – off with the welcoming of 1st year students to the Institution for their orientation week from 27 – 31 January.

Orientation programme is intended to introduce students to both the academic and social aspects of the institution as they transition from high school to tertiary life.

It provides time prior to classes beginning to allow first-year students to meet their peers, visit facilities, become familiar with the campus, and feel comfortable with their new surroundings.

The week is also intended to allow the new students an opportunity to interact with academic departments, administration staff and learn more about oneself and others.

Acting Student Affairs Manager Mongezi Salman said, orientation is designed to foster a celebratory & welcoming environment where new students can explore how to make informed academic decisions and responsible social choices by tapping into resources and services offered by the Institute.

“It is a time when 1 st year students are adjusting to a new educational environment full of higher expectations & more serious consequences for failure, and this can be extremely stressful. By doing orientation, the Institute hopes to ease the transition and improve student experience,” added Salman.

2026 SRC President; Liyabona Sofuthe said, starting college can be challenging, but orientation helps students gain confidence and direction, and as the SRC, our role is to make sure every first-year student feels welcomed, supported, and informed.

Sofuthe, who becomes the 3rd female to hold the position in school history & 2nd in succession, explained the orientation programme was not just about information, it was also about building a strong student community & seeing the excitement and energy of the new students gave us hope for a great academic year.

“The week was only the beginning of a journey where we will continue to support student wellness and growth & we hope that from this programme, the new students felt and saw that they truly belong at Fort Cox,” added Sofuthe.
